Get your Restricted Licence with MUMA
Once you’ve held your Learner's Licence for at least six months, you’re ready for the next step – the Restricted Licence. This licence gives you more independence, but also comes with important conditions to keep you safe while you gain experience on the road.
To get your restricted licence, you’ll need to:
Book and pass a practical driving test. (VTNZ holds practical tests from our Driving School for our students.)
Bring your current Learner licence.
The restricted test takes about 45 minutes. It’s designed to check whether you can drive safely and confidently without a supervisor. You’ll be tested on things like observation, speed control, safe following distances, and hazard detection.
There is a cost to sit your Restricted Licence, but there are ways we may be able to help, so make sure you get in touch!
Here at MUMA, we offer practical driving lessons to get you ready to take the practical test.
We use MUMA fleet vehicles for both lessons and for testing, so if you don’t have a car, no worries!
Once you pass, you’ll have a Restricted Licence. This means you can drive on your own, but there are still rules:
You cannot drive between 10pm and 5am unless you have a supervisor.
You cannot carry passengers unless they are your spouse, parent, child, or someone you look after, unless you have a supervisor.
You must always have your licence with you.
You must maintain a zero alcohol limit.
At MUMA Driving School, we make sure you’re ready for this challenge. Our instructors work alongside you, helping you build confidence with real driving practice, mock tests, and tips to handle test-day nerves. With our support, you won’t just pass – you’ll feel safe, capable, and proud of your progress.
